- By half past six she is walking toward the station.
- The platform is already busy, though the sky is still dark.
- When the train arrives, she finds a seat near the door.
- For twenty minutes she reads, and then she watches the fields.
- The city appears slowly, first as warehouses and then as towers.
- At the last stop everyone stands at the same moment.
- Maria walks the final stretch because the bus is rarely faster.
- She buys nothing on the way, having packed her lunch.
- The office opens at eight, and she is usually second in.
- Her desk is by the window, which makes the early start easier.
- By nine the whole floor is awake and the phones begin.
- The journey home will be longer, but she ignores that for now.
